Ongoing, localized and personalized professional development is essential to the flourishing of teachers. ACSIWC provides structured events to help meet the development goals of Christian schools and their teachers. Each year we host Teacher Conventions which local committees help plan. These conventions feature both keynote presentations and workshops which are intended to match the professional goals of our schools. The distinctive element of each convention is the Christ-centered foundation of all learning experiences for teachers. Every educational topic is presented through the lens of the Biblical narrative. Conventions inform, equip and ultimately inspire.
As current COVID-19 health restrictions are monitored, this may be an in-person event or it may be livestreamed. Please check back in December for up-to-date details.
Theme:
Spiritual Formation: Reclaimed—The Humanizing Path to Spiritual Growth (Ephesians 4:11-13)
Keynote Speaker: Andy Steiger
When Andy founded Apologetics Canada, he was motivated to stop the exodus of young people leaving the church. God however had much more in store. Andy sees this generation of young people, both Christians and non-Christians alike, as having questions and are seeking truth. He believes the challenge in Western culture is communicating the message of Jesus in a way that people can understand and appreciate. Sharing the gospel requires us all to understand and speak the language of culture and address the questions being asked with intellectual honesty, gentleness and respect. When we do this in the love and winsomeness of Christ Jesus, lives are impacted and culture is changed. Andy speaks internationally at universities, conferences, churches, prisons and coffee shops. He is currently a PhD candidate at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
Topics:
SESSION 1: WHAT IS HUMAN?
In this session, Andy discusses how spiritual growth is an outworking of who and what we are as human beings which are defined by our view of God. When we see God correctly, we reclaim a Christian understanding of humanity that leads from spiritual death to life.
SESSION 2: WHAT IS HUMAN FLOURISHING?
In this second session, Andy builds upon the Christian understanding of humanity by discussing spiritual growth within the context of human flourishing as defined by Jesus. When we see Jesus correctly, we reclaim a Christian understanding of flourishing that leads to our spiritual growth.
SESSION 3: HOW SHOULD HUMANS LIVE?
In this last session, Andy ties together what spiritual growth looks like within the Christian teaching of our humanity and flourishing found in the Holy Spirit. When we see the Holy Spirit correctly, we reclaim a Christian understanding of morality that corrects and guides us as we continue to grow in our relationship with God and each other.
