KEYNOTE sessions—Jordie Maxwell

Rev. Jordie Maxwell is the Campus Pastor and Spiritual Life Department Head at Strathcona Christian Academy Secondary in Sherwood Park, Alberta. Previously he was a Young Adults Pastor at Sherwood Park Alliance Church and a Youth Pastor at Stony Plain Alliance Church – serving those churches for 20 years. Jordie’s one word life focus is “capacity” and he tries to live intentionally loving and challenging young people to be all they can be for Christ. In study he loves to research adolescent spiritual formation and natural leader processes specific to cultural transformation. Jordie has been married to Karmen for 30 years and together they have three boys (ages 17-23).

  • Session One: WHAT IS FAITH?
Isn’t the answer to this question obvious? Actually, no. The Bible says, “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). Faith is a lot more than just belief. A rational recognition that Jesus died and rose doesn’t always lead to a transformed life. In this session, we’re going to learn what faith really is. Also, we’ll be reminded obedience is not a means of earning salvation but an inevitable expression of those who are saved.

  • Session Two: HOW DO I GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE BIBLE?
Reading and applying the Bible are the most important skills for spiritual growth. The Bible says, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). In this session, we’re going to reflect on the Bible as God’s authoritative word and be challenged once again to apply its principles to your life.

  • Session Three: WHAT IS TRUE RELIGION?
Ever heard of The Silver Rule? It’s all about “not doing to others.” Jesus actually said, “Do to others.” The Bible says, “Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets (Matthew 7:12). We call it The Golden Rule. In this session, we’re going to look at how James, like the Old Testament Prophets, called us to justice, kindness, and humility as true religious expression.

student–led Workshops

Student–led workshops are a unique opportunity for leadership students to learn what it takes to study, prepare, and present a workshop in front of their peers. They work alongside a leadership mentor teacher from their school to craft a workshop proposal and write their outline, and then bring it all together for an in–person presentation at the Student Leadership Conference.

The ACSI Student Activities Program seeks to encourage and inspire students toward a standard of excellence in leadership, communication, and performance by enhancing the academic and fine arts education program of the Christian school. It provides opportunity for the practical application and development of skills necessary for confident Christian leadership. Each activity is planned to impact the educational and spiritual growth of each student, encouraging them to be a testimony to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Each event also seeks to provide opportunity for Christian fellowship and positive interaction between students and teachers of participating schools.
